As the 2022 BECE draws closer, we share with candidates, parents, teachers and schools 5 warning signs of BECE candidates who will fail the exam and what needs to be done to deal with the possibility of failing.

Examinations like the BECE are passed by serious students who work hard before and during the main examination. Those who will make the grades can be determined from the way they carry out their preparation.

What are the 5 warning signs a BECE candidate will fail the exam?

#1. The first of the 5 warning signs of possible failure is the act of chasing over Apor or leaked examination questions. Some BECE candidates instead of working hard and preparing with all the seriousness, they are calling strangers and examination leaking syndicates for Apor. The danger is that, such candidates may be scammed, others may receive fake questions and spend time mastering them only to get disappointed. It will be unwise to be looking for Apor when all you need to do is to sit and study.

#2. Again, candidates who are specializing to pass the exam are likely to test failure. If you feel you have your favourate subjects and topics, and you concentrate on them, those topics may not show up at all in the exam. Do not forget that, the BECE covers 8 to 9 subjects. Each subject also has several topics. It will be wrong to concentrate your efforts on just a few topics. Study as many of the topics and revise well to increase your chances of passing.

#.3 Stop getting scared and believe in yourself. There are students who are getting stressed up already. The BECE is going to be fun and a walk in the park if you keep your calm. Tell yourself you can do it. Overcome your fear by studying even harder. If a subject puts fear in you, face that subject as you do your revisions for the examination. Knock out every negative thought. If you cannot do this basic work on your mind, you can end up performing poorly.

#4. Students who are likely to fail the BECE are those who have refused to answer questions fully. Sadly, there are students who are yet to master how to answer questions. The examiner will not mark what you have learned unless you write them as accurate as required of you. Students need to take a look at how past questions have been answered in their PASCO books, and use the same approach to answer the questions they are using as revision materials. There are a lot of useful resources online for BECE candidates, and one of such websites to get amazing questions and answers for your preparation is Ghanaeducation.org.

Finally, students who are likely to fail the BECE are those who are not solving all the mock questions they failed to answer well and the once they did not even chose during the mock.  Very often, candidates choose particular questions they can solve during the mock but, after they mock, it will be an unwise decision not to find the answers to the questions you did not choose. If those questions get quizzed in the BECE, you will be in trouble and if you fail to answer them well, you may fail the exam.

To ensure you get ready for the 2022 BECE and come out with good results, consider the following suggestions.

    1. Revise all topics plus the last 6 years BECE past papers.
    2. Teach your friends what you have learned because doing that helps you to remember most of the things you have learnt.
    3. Practice how to solve questions. Master the requirements of the exam when the examiner uses words such as Describe, Explain, State and know what they mean in each subject.
    4. Practice both objective and subjective test questions and do this every day.
    5. Create a final revision timetable. This must be based on the pair of subjects you will be writing each day. This helps your brain to get used to the learning and solving of questions related to the two subjects.
    6. Avoid looking for apor and stay safe from the temptation of being scammed.
