Ghana’s Poultry Industry Needs urgent Support -Akoko Foto Farms CEO Cries To Gov’t

The Chief Executive Officer of Akoko Foto Farms Limited at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, Mr Kojo Nyameke,
has made a passionate appeal to the government to swiftly come to the aid of the poultry farmers in order to help accelerate economic growth.

According to him, the private sector is the engine of growth, and therefore all concerted efforts should be made to keep such dreams afloat.

Mr. Kojo Nyameke admitted that the current government has done a lot to revive the poultry business, but more efforts needed.

As a trained veterinary officer, Mr. Kojo Nyameke entered the poultry business in 2014.

Having sojourned in Germany for twenty-two years he came down with so much experience and started the farm with some thousand birds. Today, he has over 120.000 thousand birds and about fifty workers.

” I realised that most people import fowls from abroad into this country and even eggs from Cote d’ivoire. This help pushed me into the poultry business,” he said.

For last the four years there is maize in abundance and farmers from all front are enjoying the sufficiency. One would pray that the government will continue to put down prudent measures that will benefit the Ghanaian farmer.

“Another desire is to start hatching here in Ghana, for now, the broilers are imported and nobody knows what goes into it before it comes here,” he remarked. “But if we have maize and soy in regular supply then we can stop the importation,” he continued.

Right now, they are producing organic fertilizer , as part of their expansion.

A team of scientists from the University of Ghana Legon has run a series of tests on it.

Mr Kojo Nyameke is hoping to reach 1000.000 million birds in the next couple of years. He believes the government’s desire to industrialise the country is a good one and we should help make it a success.
