Communion Taking Should Not Be Selective–Churches Told

Some members of the Clergy have expressed grave concern about the situation where some churches have made the taking of communion the preserve for those they perceive as righteous.

The development, they said rather pushes people away from God, instead of bringing them closer to Him.

This concern was expressed by the Agona Swedru branch minister of the Christ Mission Chapel Int. Rev. James Akyerekwah Jnr. as well as the Agona Nyakrom branch minister of the Apostles’ Continuation Church, Evang. Kwesi Attah in separate interviews.

According to both members of the Clergy, no one can judge another person as righteous or sinful apart from God, and as such, it is wrong for any pastor to declare communion taking as a preserve for only the righteous.

Their concern follows the claim by most churches that the taking of communion is a covenant between God and the person taking it, but could bring curses if the one taking it has a sinful nature such as if that person is not married and is therefore engaged in fornication, or if that person is not in good terms with another person.

But both Rev. James Akyerekwah and Evang. Kwesi Attah claims that that situation turns to ward people away from God.

According to them, those who are perceived to be righteous before the sight of men may be sinful before God, and as such the church should allow every member to partake in the practice so long as the person deems him or herself as righteous, except children who can not differentiate between good and evil.
