Police Commence Investigations Into Deaths Of Officers


The Ghana Police Service (GPS) says it has started a vigorous investigation into the deaths of its officers in recent times.

The Police Administration reports of the death of No. 53543 G/Const. Yelnona Eugene of NPU on 1st February 2021.

According to the GPS, an investigation has already commenced in order for them to know the circumstances of his death.

In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs for the Police Administration, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sheila Kessie Abayie-Buckman stated that “investigation has already commenced to unravel the circumstance of his death, with the National Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Crime Scene and Homicide Teams having already visited the scene of the crime.

The family of the Police Officer has also been informed of the death.”

She further stated that “the Police Administration urges all to be sensitive to the bereaved and circumspect in their reportage or commentary on the matter, as the investigation is ongoing.”

A few days ago, the Half-Assin District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police Cyprian Zenge also allegedly killed himself.

The Commander committed suicide in the early hours of Saturday, January 30, 2021. “I am fed up in this world”, a suicide note found read.

The Western Regional Police Command Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Ms Olivia Adiku confirmed the story.

A statement from the Regional Command states that “the Regional Crime Scene Team has already visited the scene, where he was found sitting in a blue chair with a gunshot wound on his forehead, with his pistol beside him on the floor and one spent ammunition under the chair.”
