GCTU  will continue to be an educational hub for academic excellence—Prof Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa of Ghana Communication Technology University College (GCTU) has said the university will continue to be an educational hub for academic excellence.

Adding that,  the University will also create enabling environment for quality teaching, learning and research for all students in pursuance of career development.

“GCTU have exhibited intellectual creativity, innovation and service to the community and the nation at large towards the economic growth and development of the country,” he said.

Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa made the remarks at the 29th congregational ceremony under the theme, “Harnessing Ghana’s Communication and Technology Potential for Sustainable Economic Growth” at the Tesano main campus in Accra.

The ceremony witnessed a total of 1308 students comprising 137 postgraduates and 117 undergraduates from its affiliated academic institutions.

The Vice-Chancellor said the University has excelled beyond expectations in academic programmes with its local affiliate universities, international partners and other professional accredited bodies however pointed out that the University has engaged Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for accreditation on its STEM and ICT programmes.

“Our primary focus is to nurture personal values, and ethics to conform to academic standards in the country and the world at large,” he added and disclosed further that the University has signed a partnership agreement with the Durban University of Technology in South Africa and will do same with three (3) others in Canada this year.

“GCTU is appealing to government, corporate bodies, benevolent societies, philanthropists to support the University’s developmental projects and urged students to remember their Alma Mata in the good times in their working endeavours”, the Vice-Chancellor said.

He expressed gratitude to management and staff for their tremendous commitment to the growth of the University.

For his part, the Director for the Institute of Industrial Research of the Council Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) urged students to embrace the emerging trends in technological advancement and identify areas that they can harness to achieve their potential in their respective fields of academic endeavour towards the socio-economic development of the country.

“Continue to adapt to change, fix your attitude and your sense of entitlement as well as engage in constructive criticism,” he said, adding that students must develop a positive “can do” attitude that will enhance their careers in the World of Works (WoWs).
