On the dawn of Wednesday, July 31st, 2024 H.E. Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political office of Hamas and one of the proud and brave leaders of the Palestinian resistance, who was a guest to the government and people of Iran participated in the inauguration ceremony of the country’s newly elected president, was targeted in a terrorist attack by the Zionist regime and lost his life.
The assassination (Martyrdom) of Ismail Haniyeh, one of the elected leaders of the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination, is another evidence of the terrorist, aggressive, and law-breaking nature of the Zionist regime ruling the occupied Palestinian lands.
This terrorist act is not only a flagrant violation of the principles and rules of international law and the United Nations Charter but also a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.
This new crime of the Israeli terrorist regime is in the continuation of the assassination of Palestinian resistance leaders in other countries in the past decades, but today’s incident is part of the ongoing Palestinian genocide program for the past 10 months, aiming at the spread of Increased insecurity in the West Asian region.
The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes the responsibility of the US government as a sponsor and accomplice to the Zionist regime in the continuation of the genocide upon the Palestinians, and their committing of this heinous act of terrorism.
The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, and while emphasizing its inherent right to respond appropriately to this aggressive act against its sovereignty and territorial integrity, expects other countries and international organizations to support the Palestinian people’s right to determination and their legitimate resistance against the occupation, and take the necessary political, legal and punitive measures to seriously and effectively hold the Genocidal Israeli regime accountable.
