MTN Ghana Calls for Cybersecurity Culture in Business Operations
MTN Ghana’s Chief Information Officer, Bernard Acquah, highlighted the urgent need for companies to strengthen their cybersecurity frameworks, emphasizing that cybersecurity should be woven into the fabric of an organization’s culture.
He gave the advice during the MTN Bright Conversation webinar, themed: “Navigating the Digital World Safely: Awareness, Action, Assurance.”
Mr Acquah stressed that maintaining a secure digital environment requires adopting external cybersecurity tools and services, as well as regularly conducting vulnerability tests to identify potential weaknesses within company networks.
“Cybersecurity is a fundamental aspect of living in the digital age,” he stated. “At MTN, we are dedicated to empowering our community with the knowledge and tools for online safety. Our theme, ‘Living with Security,’ reflects this commitment.”
He outlined essential cybersecurity practices, focusing on raising employee awareness, implementing strict access controls, and continuously monitoring network endpoints.
According to him, regular staff training and strong access policies form the backbone of any effective cybersecurity defense.
He advised that cybersecurity should be integrated into daily routines, helping employees view it as part of their corporate responsibility rather than an isolated task.
“Employees should consider cybersecurity a shared responsibility,” Acquah noted. “Awareness and periodic testing keep everyone alert and help prevent security breaches.”
He further cautioned against using external devices like USBs that might introduce malware, jeopardizing network security.
