The National Democratic Congress says it has unimpeachable evidence and facts regarding the discovery and destruction of over one million ballot papers for the Ashanti region prior to the 2020 elections.

It has therefore accepted the challenge of the Electoral Commission (EC) that the police should investigate the allegation of the printing of over one million excess ballot papers.

As a result, the party has served notice that it will lodge an official complaint to the police and provide them with all the evidence and assistance to investigate the matter to unravel the truth for all Ghanaians to see.

The call by the NDC for the investigation of the printing of over one million excess ballot papers was triggered by a Deputy Chairperson of EC, Dr. Bossman Asare’s response to Former President, John Mahama’s criticisms of the EC’s mishandling of the 2020 elections.

Mr. John Mahama said during his “Thank You Tour” of the country that the NDC discovered an excess of one million ballot papers printed at the blind side of its agents and that in the days leading up to the elections, some individuals were arrested in possession of thumb printed genuine ballot papers which bore the EC’s validating stamp.

Speaking at a news conference in Accra, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National chief scribe of NDC recalled that prior to the printing of ballots, the NDC raised an alarm that the EC failed to give political parties ballots statistics.

Ballots statistics are details of ballots to be printed by various security printing houses. The provision of ballots statistics to political party agents at the printing press according to Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah was another transparency measure that enables party agents to ensure that printing houses do not print ballots in excess of what is required for a given election.

The refusal of the EC to supply parties with statistics timorously, he said, gave way for the printing of excess ballots that were widely distributed across the country particularly in the Ashanti region to comprise to rig the elections.

Ghanaians, the General Secretary of the NDC, said were witnesses to viral videos of persons who were arrested by the police with thumb-printed ballot papers that had the official seal of the EC.

Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah said with the above-mentioned development, the EC clearly has questions to answer as to how its official stamps found their way into the hands of unauthorized persons who used the same to perpetrate electoral fraud.

He also cited a purported election fraud where NDC caused to be burnt over one million ballot papers designated for Ashanti region which were concealed at Innolink printing press.

In view of the complicity of and collusion by Innolink printing press, the NDC says, it shall resist any attempt to include them in the printing of ballot papers in the future.
