NEIP Offers Support To Beneficiaries Of YIIAS

National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) has disbursed funds to beneficiaries of Youth In Innovative Agric Support(YIIAS) under the Ghana Cares Obaatanpa Program with the objective of supporting young people who undertake farming as a commercial venture.

The 500 beneficiaries who were drawn from the 16 regions of Ghana after a call for applications from NEIP received funds ranging from Ghc10,000, Ghc20, 000 and Ghc100, 000 depending on the modules.

The modules covered under the Youth In Innovative Agric Support include vegetable farming, maize farming, poultry and livestock, agro-processing, agric-tech, aquaculture, and yam and cassava farming.

Some of the crops and vegetables cultivated under the modules are maize, soya bean, sorghum, tomatoes, and onion.

Speaking at the disbursement ceremony in Accra, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the Chief Executive Officer of NEIP said out of the 40,000 applications received after a call for applications, 24,000 applicants were selected and trained in 40 training centres across the 16 regions of the country.

He added that subsequent disbursement will be made to other beneficiaries in the course of the year.

The project according to the Chief Executive Officer of NEIP supports beneficiaries with training and funding with continuous coaching and mentoring services.

Government through the Ghana Cares Obaatanpa Program, he said, was providing these funds to beneficiaries not only to nurture crops and livestock but also to help nature their dream of becoming successful agric entrepreneurs.

Gifty Nkansah Sekyere who represented Eva Mends, the Chief Director of Ministry of Finance encouraged beneficiaries to embrace the opportunities presented by the Government and harness their potential in the promising field of entrepreneurship and agriculture.
