Nungua Market Fact-Finding Committee Inaugurated

The Overlord of Gadamgme State Gborbu Wulomo-Shitse Wor-Lumor Konor Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsrur XXXIII has charged the newly formed Nungua (Sookpoti) Market Fact-Finding Committee to take urgent steps to resolve all dispute among marketers.

The committee was set up to review the general operations of the market, the assets and liabilities, the legal standing with respect to the Registrar General Department, how the current management was formed, the financial standing of management, general conditions in the market, and resolution of other burning issues.

Speaking at the inauguration of Nungua (Sookpoti) Fact-Finding Committee at Gborbu Wulomo-Shitse Palace on Thursday 10 June 2021, the Overlord of Gadamgme State Gborbu Wulomo Shitse Wor-Lumor Konor Nuumo Borketey Laweh Tsrur XXXIII said “The committee that we have set up should settle all dispute in the market. The committee has my blessings and I believe whatever you do shall prosper”.

Established in the 1960s, the idea behind the Nungua (Sookpoti) market has been on the drawing board for over thirty years (30) due to a lack of resources and committed leadership. In 1993, during the first parliament of the fourth Republic, the then Member of Parliament for the area Jacob Tawiah revisited the idea.

With seed money from the administration of the Nungua Traditional Area, the first stalls were established. It remains a local project without the support of the central government.

Addressing the committee during the inauguration, Nungua Mankralo, Nii Alabi Dzenge IV noted that “the exercise is not a witch-hunting one bit to streamline the operations of management in the interest of the market, the general public who patronize the market and the local authorities”.
