President Akufo-Addo has frozen the salary increment of the executive organ of government for the year 2021 to check government’s spending and minimise expenditure of government machinery.
Speaking at Worker’s Day Celebration on Saturday 1 May 2021, the Ghanaian Leader Akufo-Addo said “I have taken the decision to freeze salary increment for this year 2021 for myself, vice president, ministers and deputy ministers to check government spending”.
President Akufo-Addo has also urged organised labour to engage in a dialogue intended to resolve difficulties that confront Ghana.
According to him, the stable labour environment under his presidency was a result of the collective efforts of government and labour unions.
“The stable labour atmosphere was not by chance but a combined work of the organised labour and government. I urged organised labour to engage in dialogue for the benefit of our country aimed at resolving Ghana’s problems”.
Meanwhile, Executive Secretary of Trade Union Congress (TUC) DR. YAW BAAH has expressed worry over the rate at which Ghanaian businesses are being negatively affected in the era of covid-19. According to him “more than 800,000 jobs have been lost due to covid-19 pandemic”.
