Right To Information Awareness Month Launched
Right To Information Commission(RTIC) has set aside September 2023 as Right To Information (RTI) month in a bid to increase its sensitization drive to educate and enlighten the public on the right to information.
The objective of RTI Month 2023 is to sustain the awareness creation that the Commission had embarked upon and improve the deliberative platforms provided for the implementation of the law to be the best practices that had helped some pioneers of the RTI law to be successful in their jurisdiction.
Speaking at the launch of RTI month in Accra, Justice (RTD) K. A. Ofori Atta, the Board Chairman of RTIC, said RTI month would also give the Commission the opportunity to organize various activities and commemorate the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) declared on 28th September by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on 17th November 2015.
The RTI month celebration according to him, had been set in motion with radio and television interviews, stakeholders engagement, churches and mosques engagement.

Other activities that will be undertaken during the celebration include health and games activities, and a quiz on Act 989 slated for 24 September at GBC studios.

Section 45 of the RTI Act, 2019(Act 989) mandates the Commission to promote and sustain awareness within the country and collaborate with other State institutions to educate the public.
