Due to Christmas festivities and its associated activities, the Greater Accra Road Safety Patrol team of the Motor Traffic Division Department(MTDD) of the Ghana Police Service has increased its patrol visibility in order to prevent and reduce road Crashes.
As a result, DSP Stella Ewool, the MTDD Kpeshie Divisional Commander, said instead of two schedules of the road safety patrol team, an additional schedule had been added to make it three in order arrest drivers and other road users who flout road traffic regulations and process them for court.
The MTDD and Road Safety Authority had since the beginning of November to December 2020 being working together on a road safety initiative dubbed “Arrive Alive Campaign” to promote safety on the country’s roads and halt road crushes.
The road safety education campaign team had visited Madina, Kaneshie, Nungua, Ashiaman enclave as well as Neoplan and VIP stations to perform their constitutional mandate.
Rosslyn Darko, the Assistant Planning Manager for Road Safety in of Greater Accra region said the initiative has been successful.
Owing to the success chalked, Ms. Darko said, road crashes in the region has reduced drastically.
She advised drivers to ignore pressures from passengers to engage in unnecessary speed in order for them to arrive at their destination early.
Ms. Darko also urged passengers not to engage in a heated argument with drivers that has the potential to detract them from concentrating while driving.
