Owner of King Faisal Football Club, Alhaji Karim Grusah is pushing for the appointment of an expatriate coach for the Black Stars after insisting that CK Akonnor cannot win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title for Ghana.
The West African country despite dominating the continual tournament in the past have failed to live up to expectations in the last four decades.
Ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon, the government has set a big target for the Black Stars.
The fallout from a breakfast meeting between President Akufo-Addo, officials of the Ghana FA, and CEOs from corporate Ghana is that Ghana must win the next AFCON tournament.
Speaking on the set target, Alhaji Grusah says it is possible but cannot be achieved with CK Akonnor as the head coach of the Black Stars.
“I’m a Ghanaian, I can’t support Burkina Faso or any other country than Ghana but this coach has nothing better to lead our team for the trophy.
“I believe we can win the trophy but not with this coach, Ghana need a white coach because football is managed by critical thinking person and I know you understand me well,” Alhaji Grusah told Kumasi FM in an interview.
Ghana last won the AFCON title in 1982. Since then it has been failure after failure with the last appearances of the Black Stars in 2019 turning out to be an exit at the Round 16 stage.
