Ghana international, Christian Atsu has confirmed that he is leaving Newcastle United after spending five years at the English Premier League outfit.
The former Black Stars regular joined the Magpies on loan from Chelsea FC in the 2016/2017 football season before subsequently joining the side on a permanent deal the following season.
Although he enjoyed a stellar campaign in the seasons that followed, the 2020/2021 campaign was one to forget.
Having been dropped out of the squad for the English Premier League season, Christian Atsu was forced to train and play for the U-23 side to ensure he stays in form.
At the end of what has been a frustrating season, Christian Atsu has now announced his decision to end his stay at Newcastle United.
“When I arrived in Newcastle almost 5 years ago, I was made to feel welcome from the start..by everyone at the club and especially by the fans. I grew to love the city and my young family feel very at home here.
“Sadly, the time has now come for me to leave the club, so I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who is part of the Newcastle Utd family. Thank you to the Toon Army fans, a lot of whom I’ve met around the city. I will never forget my time in the North East and for sure I will follow the results every week. Thank you my geordie staff, players & fans, it’s been a pleasure,” Christian Atsu said in a Twitter post to confirm his exit from the English Club.
According to reports, Christian Atsu is a transfer target of English Championship side Huddersfield Town.
