The Management of Ghana Grid Company (GRIDC0) says the looming load-shedding to hit some parts of the country is a result of pockets of maintenance work they will be carrying out.
There have been varied media reports suggesting that the Ghanaian people should brace themselves for nation-wide power outages across the nation.
This assertion, according to the country’s power Management Body, GRIDCO stated that the exercise will affect some areas and for a space of time and period.
“This request has come to us. There a plethora of requests in terms of projects scattered across the country. So, there are some requests that are been based on same-day outage requests, there are some for four days outages depending on the duration and the hours.
Some are even for two weeks and all that,” the Public Relations Officer for GRIDCO, Ebenezer Amankwah told StarrFM and monitored by Capitalnewsonline.com.
He disclosed that the imminent load-shedding is for three months thus from April to June.
“The request for the outages spans between April and June. It doesn’t mean that between April and June people are going to experience outages. We are saying within this period, there are pockets of periods within this timeframe where requests for outages will come,” the PRO stated.
He added that “so, we have seen all these requests and what we are doing is engaging the distribution company, in this case, ECG on how we can properly structure a cogent load management structure that also ensures minimum impacts to the likely affected areas in terms of the projects that are ongoing.
That’s basically what the conversation is about. It’s not an issue of a nationwide load-shedding timetable.”
Mr. Amankwah in assuring Ghanaians said “our responsibility is to ensure that it has minimal impact on customers and the affected areas. And also to communicate effectively with ECG so that people that are likely to experience outages know beforehand the duration and then the timeframe.”
