Vivo Energy Inspired ‘Stop, Think & Driver Road Safety Campaign Launched

Vivo Energy Ghana and its transporters have launched the 2022 edition of ‘Stop, Think & Drive’ National Road Safety campaign at a well-attended ceremony at Neoplan station, Odawna-Circle, a suburb of Accra.

The ‘Stop, Think& Drive road safety campaign initiative masterminded by Vivo Energy Ghana is designed to curb injuries and fatalities directly related to road traffic accidents.

Mr. Kader Maiga, the Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana, said as an energy company with road transport safety as one of its key priority areas, Vivo Energy Ghana is committed to supporting the government and its agencies curb the menace of road traffic accidents through the ‘Stop, Think & Drive annual road safety programme.

He said “we are happy to achieve this through a partnership with National Road Safety Authority being the statutory regulatory body for road safety in Ghana to lead and supervise the project to ensure it meets all standards and requirements.

They will be supported by relevant stakeholder institutions including the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), the police MTTD, and the various transport unions.”

Mr. Maiga expressed gratitude to transporters namely S.O Frimpong, J.K Horgle, and J.K. Ahiadome, and National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) for their relentless support over the years in making Vivo Energy Ghana road safety campaign a success.

The Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana said this year’s campaign is expected to reach over 1,000 high-risk commercial drivers and motorcyclists across the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Bono East, Northern, Central, and Western regions of Ghana with refresher training in defensive driving and free eye screening services for drivers.

He added that after the training, drivers will be monitored and evaluated to assess the impact made over a period with the help of station masters and driver unions.

Mr. Maiga urged all drivers and motorcyclists to make the most of the refresher training to better equip them in discharging their daily activities and contribute towards making Ghana’s roads safer.

He said, “improving safety on our roads is a collective responsibility, let’s get involved.”
Mr. David Osafo Adonteng, the Acting Director General of NRSA in his delivery appealed to all stakeholders in the transport sector to work together to minimise the rate of motor-related accidents on the country’s roads.
