The President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Group, Ralph Mupita, has praised MTN Ghana for its strong contribution to the company’s record-breaking performance, while reaffirming plans to accelerate digital and financial inclusion across Africa.

Speaking at the MTN Bright Conversations series in Accra, Mr. Mupita disclosed that the Group achieved its best results in eight years, with Ghana playing a “tremendously important role” in the success.

“Service revenue was very strong, data growth was remarkable, and mobile money uptake continued to rise sharply. Ghana contributed significantly to the Group results, and this would not have been possible without the hard work of our team, our customers, and stakeholders,” he said.

    5G and Spectrum Allocation

Mr. Mupita emphasized that spectrum availability is key to Africa’s digital transformation. He revealed that while MTN operates 5G in several major markets, Ghana remains the only major market yet to roll out the technology.

“We are in constructive discussions with authorities in Ghana to secure spectrum that will enable services such as cloud computing, AI applications, logistics, and smart mining. Delivering high-quality connectivity to homes and businesses will require decisive spectrum allocation,” he explained.

    Digital Skilling and AI Preparedness

The MTN boss also stressed the need for Africa to prepare for the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution. He described digital skilling as “as important as reading and writing for the next 20 to 30 years,” warning that those who fail to adapt risk being left behind.

He said MTN is committed to empowering young Africans with coding, AI, and digital skills to create future-ready opportunities.

    Cybersecurity and Mobile Money

On cybersecurity and mobile money protection, Mr. Mupita assured customers that MTN is investing heavily in fraud prevention.

“Fraudulent transactions form a small proportion of overall volumes, but we are not complacent. We continue to partner with global cybersecurity institutions, deploy AI-driven fraud detection, and enforce stronger customer verification systems,” he said.

    Government Partnerships and Future Plans

He further called for stronger partnerships between governments and the private sector, noting that “capital flows where regulatory environments are consistent, clear, and investment-friendly.” He acknowledged Ghana’s progress in implementing reforms that support the digital economy.

Looking ahead, Mr. Mupita reaffirmed MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy, which focuses on connectivity, fintech, and digital infrastructure. He added that the Group is already preparing for the next decade.

“We are now looking at 2030 and beyond, thinking in 10-year cycles. The opportunities in digital infrastructure and services are enormous, and we are committed to ensuring every African has access to affordable, high-quality connectivity,” he said.

    Appreciation to Customers

Mr. Mupita concluded by thanking MTN Ghana customers and stakeholders, pledging to continue delivering innovative services that improve lives and strengthen Ghana’s digital economy.
