MTN Ghana has demonstrated its commitment to sustainability by donating computers and accessories to the Office of the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, enhancing the operational capacity of the newly established ministry.

The donation follows strategic engagements between the telecommunications leader and the ministry to identify critical logistical gaps during its formative phase.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, MTN Ghana’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Adwoa Wiafe, said the company acted swiftly in response to the ministry’s request for essential tools, including computers, projectors, and presentation screens.

“When the ministry was being set up, we engaged to understand its immediate needs. Today’s donation directly responds to those priorities and supports the vital national work underway,” she stated.

Ms. Wiafe emphasised that sustainability is not peripheral but central to MTN Ghana’s long-term business strategy.

She highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the integration of electric vehicles and the adoption of biodegradable materials, underscoring the company’s broader environmental stewardship agenda.

“This partnership goes beyond equipment. We are committed to sustained collaboration through knowledge-sharing, innovation, and long-term engagement,” she added.

Receiving the items, the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Mr. Seidu Issifu, described the gesture as a strong example of responsible private sector leadership.

He noted that the ministry has been laying a solid institutional foundation, including the formation of a Technical Working Committee comprising cross-sector representatives to coordinate Ghana’s climate response.

“Climate change cuts across every sector of our economy. Coordinated action, supported by strong partnerships, is essential to delivering measurable impact,” he said.

Mr. Issifu invited MTN Ghana to formally participate in the Technical Working Committee, stressing that private sector expertise is critical to shaping practical and sustainable climate policies.

He further outlined plans to establish climate and sustainability units across ministries, extend initiatives to local government levels, and launch a National Climate and Sustainability Hub to serve as a centre of excellence for research, capacity building, and policy coordination.

The minister also disclosed government plans to convene a National Climate Business Forum aimed at deepening private sector engagement in climate adaptation and green growth strategies.

“We cannot confront climate change with policy alone. It demands behavioural transformation, community engagement, and strong partnerships with forward-looking businesses,” he stressed.

He assured MTN Ghana that the donated equipment would be fully deployed to strengthen the ministry’s work and expressed confidence that the company’s leadership would inspire broader corporate participation in Ghana’s climate and sustainability drive.
